The Mac Family

Fourfields Farm

The Macs are a fourth generation organic egg farming family who really love what they do! Their farm, Forefields, is located in the beautiful village of Ditchling in East Sussex.

The Mac’s Farm was bought in 1994 by 'Grandma and Grandpa', who were one of the first ever suppliers of free range eggs to the major supermarkets. Originally, the farm consisted of one shed that was used for pig farming. The farm has now been organic for 20 years and today they have a total of four chicken sheds housing a total of 18,000 organic free range birds or girls as they like to call them. The girls work hard every single day to produce high quality, delicious eggs for us all to eat.

Although rehoming is not normal farming practice, in their industry commercial chickens are not normally kept for any longer than 80 weeks. This is because as the birds get older, the quality of the egg shell sometimes deteriorates. This then can be a risk when going through a rigorous packaging process. However, after they have worked so hard and produced thousands of delicious eggs they feel it is only right that they try their best to find them new homes rather than send them to slaughter.

Over the past 9 years they have worked with some amazing organisations who have helped rehome nearly 100,000 hens, they want to see them get the retirement they deserve.
